The Star Bargains galore at PC show

THE second edition of the PC Show @ Penang at the D’Piazza in Bayan Baru is expected to attract between 20,000 and 30,000 visitors, said its organisers.

Francis Wong, the chief executive officer of LSL Infotech Sdn Bhd which organised the event, said visitors would be spoilt for choice as there are 110 booths to hunt for bargains on computers, notebooks and accessories.

He said the three-day show, which ends tomorrow, was also aimed at creating a platform for Penang-based ICT sellers to promote and showcase their latest products to consumers.

The show was opened yesterday by Penang Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Abdul Malik Abul Kassim.

Wong said a collection drive for old CPUs, monitors and printers was being held throughout the event.

“This is in support of the Cleaner, Greener Penang initiative.

“We also want to assist the public in disposing of these items which are usually bulky,” he said.

He said 390 items were collected during the first PC Show at the Penang International Sports Arena in June.

“We are confident of collecting 500 items this time,” Wong said, adding that the items would be sent to certified e-waste recyclers.

A highlight of the event is a daily lucky draw which offers two Asus netbooks and an Ipad as grand prizes. No purchase is required to participate in the draw.

The show is open from 11am to 10pm today and tomorrow. Entry is free.

（檳城15日訊）檳州宗教、貿易及消費事務委員會主席阿都馬烈透露，在州政府極力發展與推動下，檳州已發展成會議、獎勵旅遊、討論會及展覽（MICE）中心，今年州內的商貿展覽比去年增加了50%。
“州內的各項商貿展覽，從2009年的逾20項，增至2010年的40項。有些展覽從以往每兩年主辦一次，增至每年主辦數次，有些甚至一年主辦6次，其中以家具及電腦展最為熱門。”
他週一在PC Expo電腦展銷會記者會上表示，目前湖內檳州國際競技場（PISA）是主辦各項展覽的熱門場地，將於明年參展的商家，大部分也已經預定場地，許多商家更因場地爆滿而無法順利預定場地。
他建議，參展商可考慮同樣位於西南縣的D’Piazza廣場，以避免湖內檳州國際競技場太過擁擠。
“剛建設不久的D’Piazza 廣場現已安裝冷氣，廣場大廳的範圍廣闊，足夠讓參展單位擺設展覽品。”
阿都馬烈指出，目前出席展覽者以本地人，尤其北馬一帶遊客為主，當局明年將與大馬會展產業協會（MACEOS）合作，吸引更多外國尤其是歐美商家前來參展，將檳州商貿展提升至國際水平。 
另外，他披露，該會將於12月17日推出全新的“2011年檳州商貿活動日曆”，在與該會日前推出的商貿標誌配合下，他相信檳州商貿展覽及活動將辦得有聲有色。
